April 25, 2018: It’s not all muddy boots and working out in the cold. That’s the message from National Regional Property Group, which is encouraging more youngsters to explore careers in construction and the importance of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) subjects in the industry.
The company is attending EBP South’s Big Bang @ Solent event at the Ageas Bowl on Thursday (April 26) to showcase the wide variety of roles there are in the developer and construction industries.
Jo Burfitt, Business Manager at National Regional Property Group said: “Quite often when young people think of construction they think about bricklaying, carpentry and being out on a muddy building site. We want to open their eyes to the many different jobs that make up the construction industry, from planning and architecture to surveying, engineering and administration roles.”
The Big Bang @ Solent is one of the biggest careers events on the South Coast for secondary school children aged 11 – 16. It aims to encourage young people to go into STEM careers.
National Regional Property Group will set up stall with PMC Construction at the event and talk to young people about careers they might not have thought were available in construction. There will be interactive fun too, with a chance to try building with Lego and balloons.
Sharron Hampson, Training & Development Manager at PMC said: “There are so many different roles involved in building and developing new homes. We’re looking forward to telling students all about them. We know first-hand what a rewarding industry the construction one is to work in and we hope to inspire a new generation to join in at this event.”
Jo added: “As a company that’s all about creating new communities we believe it’s important to give back in the areas we operate. That’s why we’re delighted to be involved in this event, which will help to inspire young people and give them the information they need to plan their career journeys.”
